General information:
On 5 July 1967, French Somaliland changed its name to the Territoire Français des Afars et des Issas (French Territory of the Afars and Issas), named after the two predominant populations in the region. While the word Djibouti appears on the earlier notes, this refers to the capital city, not the country which would eventually emerge with the same name.
On 27 June 1977, the people of the French Territory of the Afars and Issas voted for independence from France and changed the name of the country to Djibouti. Subsequently, the Banque Nationale de Djibouti (BND) was established on 3 December 1977.
