General information: 2004 Issues
The Bank of Eritrea issued new varieties of its two highest-denomination notes in late 2005. The new notes dated 24.5.2004 have the same basic designs as the preceding issues. The color schemes are noticeably different, and the signature for the governor is new, reflecting a change in that post. Whereas all the older notes measure 140 x 70 mm, the size of the new notes graduates with the denomination.
The 2004 notes also contain modified security features. The security thread is now windowed with demetalized BANK OF ERITREA. The embedded fluorescent fibers are gone, as is the denomination in UV ink three times on the back, having been replaced by a single instance of the denomination numerals in a rectangle atop the flag-raising vignette on the front. All of the other security features from the original series remain unchanged.
