In 2008, the Reserve Bank of Malawi was ordered to pay US$250 each plus 10 years interest to Josephine, Esther Kaira, and Fairness Ngoma. Ombudsman Enock Chibwana found that the girls were photographed while coming from Chimutu Primary School and their likenesses were used on the back of this note without permission or compensation.
