Fridtjof Wedel-Jarlsberg Nansen (Store Frøen (Oslo), 10 October 1861 - Lysaker (near Oslo), 13 May 1930) was a Norwegian explorer, scientist and diplomat. Nansen studied biology at the University of Oslo, specializing in zoology. He became curator of the Bergen Museum. Nansen was professor of zoology and oceanography at the University of Oslo. He later became Norway's ambassador to London (1906-1908).
