Somaliland is an autonomous region in the northern part of the Somali republic located in the Horn of Africa. The Republic of Somaliland considers itself to be the successor state of the former British Somaliland protectorate. Having declared its own local government in Somalia on 18 May 1991, Somaliland remains unrecognized by any country or international organization.
1994 Issues
These notes were first introduced on 18 October 1994, and replaced the Somali shilling (at a rate of 100 to 1), which ceased being legal tender in Somaliland after 31 January 1995. The name of the capital (Hargeysa) is printed next to the date on the front of each note. - Source: The Banknotebook
