These notes were designed by South African artists and feature the “big five” animals on front depicted in their native environment at center, as a large head at right, and a mirror image in the watermark and five areas of important economic activity on back. They were introduced to strengthen security features, adapt to note sorting machines requirements, and meet the increasing demands for currency. - The dots at lower left front are intaglio printed to allow the sight-impaired to distinguish between denominations tactility. The 2- and 5-rand notes were replaced by coins, and new 100- and 200-rand denominations were added.
