General information:1991 - 1998 Issues
Following the 1991 election of a democratic regime which failed to enforce previous price controls, Suriname experienced an intense bout of high inflation which peaked at 43 percent a month in November 1994, just short of the threshold for hyperinflation (50 percent per month). As a result, 1,000- and 2,000-guilder notes were added to this family.
