Adib Mayala, governor of the Central Bank of Syria, stated that the new 500-pound notes are made of better-quality materials “in a way to reflect the cultural and historical image of Syria and protect the banknotes from getting worn out.” The 1,000-pound note was originally expected to follow by September 2014, but wasn’t introduced until July 2015. The 2,000-pound note is dated 2015, but wasn’t introduced until July 2017. All three notes have their denomination numerals vertically microperforated at right front.
