The first notes of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe were dated 1980 to mark the nations independence from the United Kingdom, though they were not issued until 1981 (the Z$20 was issued in 1982). Notes denominated in Rhodesian dollars were exchanged at par for new Zimbabwean-dollar notes once the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe took over the functions of the former Reserve Bank of Rhodesia.
The first series of banknotes ranged from Z$2 to Z$20, and were initially signed by Desmond C. Crough, the last governor of the Reserve Bank of Rhodesia. Additionally, they bore the name of the capital next to the date on the front; first Salisbury, then renamed Harare on 18 April 1982. - Source: The Banknotebook
